Every child’s development benefits from early exposure to music and movement. Because the early months are so important, Music Together® offers two options for babies ages eight months and younger. Babies are always welcome to attend a Mixed Age Family Class, whether registered on their own or attending free with an older brother or sister.

Parents with infants may also register for the special “Babies Class,” which is offered as a one-session introduction to Music Together®, after which babies will attend mixed-age classes. The music activities and materials are specially designed for parents who want to learn as much as possible about music development in babies. Meet other parents, bond with your baby, and sing and learn together.

Frequently Asked Questions: Babies Class

At what age should I start class with my baby?
Now! Babies learn music the same way they learn language; by being immersed in it. Just as it is never too early to start talking to your baby, it is never too early to start singing with your baby!
What age are the infants in Babies class?
Infants range from only a few weeks old to several months in this program! We recommend infants older than seven months register for Mixed Ages class. The babies are non-mobile for the majority of the session. If your baby is crawling before the start of the session, you may want to consider a Mixed Ages class. Feel free to contact us to discuss what's right for you.
My baby is under 7 months. Should I take a Babies class or a Mixed Ages class? What's the difference?
The Babies class is structured in much the same way as a Mixed Ages class. In both classes, your teacher will lead you through a variety of activities, facilitating fun and creative ways for you to interact musically with your baby. The main difference lies in parent education. Because the infants are non-mobile, there is a calmer energy in this class which allows the teacher more opportunities to explain the 'whys' behind the 'whats,' and to point out emerging musical behaviors.
My baby is over 7 months. Should I enroll in the Babies or Mixed Ages class?
While every child is on their own developmental journey, we find that babies over 7 months tend to be more engaged and interested in the activities of a Mixed Ages class. Contact us if you have questions about which class is right for your baby.
I have already taken a Babies class, but my child is still under 7 months. Can I register for a Babies class again?
We encourage you to transition to the Mixed Ages program at the end of your session. The Babies program is meant to be a one-session introduction to Music Together, with the primary goal being to give adults the tools they need to interact with their babies in a mixed-age environment. Once you have those tools, you will want to integrate your baby into a Mixed Ages class where they can learn both from you AND by watching and imitating the older children in the room! However, if your baby hasn't aged out of the Babies class and you'd like to take the class again, we'd be happy to have you!
My baby is under 7 months. Do I need to take the Babies class before the Mixed Ages class?
There's no requirement to take the Babies class before joining the Mixed Ages class. The Babies class is a great introduction to Music Together at a gentler pace with plenty of time for parent education. However, the Mixed Ages class is also perfectly appropriate for our youngest music-makers! Contact us if you have questions about which class is right for your baby.
Is the Music Together® Babies class part of the Music Class Membership?
We have decided to separate the Babies class from the membership. This allows us to run an 8-week session where you, your baby, and others in the class will all be in the same cohort. When you finish your session, you will be invited to transition into the Music Class Membership and join one of our Mixed Ages classes.
How much does it cost?
Tuition is $218 for the 8 week session and includes an illustrated songbook and a digital code to access all the music we sing in class.
What if I miss a class?
No problem! Use our online Makeup Scheduler to reserve a spot in one of the mixed age Family classes. And if you never miss a class, we'll give you a bonus class just so you can see the next stage for yourself and your baby.
